Black History at the Coalition

As Black History Month comes to an end, we wanted to share with you the Black History board at our Women’s Residential and Counseling Center (WRCC).  The board was put together by the Director of WRCC, Roxanne Beardmore.

Roxanne wanted to put something together to help educate clients and staff on the historical contributions and accolades of African-Americans not only in our country’s past, but the present as well.

In addition, the handprints in the “Our Children United” poster above came from the children in WRCC’s Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) program.

Some of the individuals highlighted on the board include: Ella Fitzgerald, Zora Neale Hurston, Miles Davis, President Barack Obama and more.

There has been positive feedback from the residents about what they have learned as a result of this lesson in Black History.
