Goodwill betters job search for Coalition’s homeless clients
Coalition for the Homeless works with dozens of partner organizations – some that even have offices on our main campus – to provide homeless men, women and children with essential tools and resources to get back on their feet.
Earlier this month, one dedicated partner in particular, Goodwill Industries of Central Florida/HSN, expanded its invaluable services to our residents.
On October 9, in light of the relocation of the nearby Goodwill Self-Sufficiency Center, a Goodwill/HSN Job Search Resource Center for Coalition clients opened on our main campus. The center, which doubles as a room for after-school tutoring, is home to five laptops and plenty of workspace.
The Coalition’s homeless adults can now look for and apply to job openings in a room designed just for that – right on site.
As Andre Howard, Goodwill/HSN Employment Specialist, explained, the center will be available every Tuesday and Thursday on a first-come, first-serve basis to encourage accountability and motivation. He also stresses the importance of creating a positive atmosphere in the center.
“The job search process can be very stressful and discouraging,” shared Lauren, a Coalition client. “Having this resource, and Mr. Andre there to help, alleviates some of that stress.”
Thanks to the new job search center, the Coalition’s homeless men and women are able to better their job search, bringing them one step closer to independence!
“Having this resource right on campus is extremely convenient… I’ve already been able to complete a few applications,” said Evie, another resident at the Coalition.
