Walmart Foundation grant supports meals for homeless

Coalition for the Homeless

Good nutrition is invaluable for adults and children alike. But unfortunately, nourishing meals are not easy to attain for families whose main priority is simply finding a place to sleep each night.

With Central Florida’s support, the Coalition’s Meal Service Program is able to foster optimal health to our homeless men, women, and children by serving USDA dietary compliant meals seven days a week.

With this in mind, in November 2011, the Walmart Foundation awarded the Coalition an extremely generous $50,000 grant! The goal was to prepare and serve 55,000 meals to 1,000 adults and children at our Center for Women and Families and Women’s Residential and Counseling Center.

It’s been nine months since we received the Walmart Foundation grant, and after tallying our numbers from the past fiscal year, we are proud to say that we exceeded the goal! Of the more than 300,000 meals served this year, the Walmart Foundation’s funding helped serve over 57,000 meals to nearly 1,200 adults and children!

Without our wonderful meal serve groups and supporters like the Walmart Foundation – who are committed to impacting the lives of our neighbors in need – we wouldn’t be able to provide the services that help guide homeless men, women, and children to independence.

We can’t thank you enough, Walmart Foundation! Your investment meant more than you know.
