Disney helping homeless kids shine
Walt Disney World Resort, an extremely valued Coalition for the Homeless partner, supports us in so many ways. This wonderful company donates a variety of services and essential in-kind items (not the least of which is toilet paper!) and is represented on our Board of Directors! Disney VoluntEARS have completed innumerable facility improvement projects and regularly serve dinner to our residents through our Meal Service Program.
Confident that the Coalition is a solid investment of their corporate time and money, Disney selected us to receive a 2012 Disney Helping Kids Shine Grant. We are truly honored to be a recipient of this gift.
The generous $75,000 grant will help the Coalition provide meals, shelter, and supportive services to the 650 homeless children we’ll see at our Center for Women and Families (CWF) and Women’s Residential and Counseling Center (WRCC) this year.
“I was proud to represent Disney in delivering the grant to Coalition for the Homeless,” said Mark Pulley, Disney’s Community Relations Manager. “It made me feel good to know that the funds would support children and their families as they make the transition from homelessness to self-sufficiency, ultimately benefiting our community.”
Disney understands that homelessness is a complex issue. We are ever so grateful for that, as well as for their continued belief in our programs and services to guide clients to independence.
The Coalition was also a 2008 and 2009 recipient of the Bob Allen Outstanding Community Service Award – the top award in the Disney Helping Kids Shine Grants Program. And in 2010, we were selected as one of the top area charities to receive their ongoing, comprehensive support.
Disney, your magical contributions to the Central Florida community have floored us yet again. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
