Christmas at the Coalition
The holidays are officially over and 2011 is finally here! But, before we dive into the new year, we wanted to share with our readers a few of the activities that took place at the Coalition during the holiday season.
To kick off the season, some of our residents and staff at the Center for Women and Families (CWF) decided to go “caroling” around the Coalition. They quickly compiled a list of the most loved and traditional Christmas carols, including Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, Winter Wonderland, Jingle Bells, and Rocking Around the Christmas Tree – to name a few. With only a couple of days to practice, they were able to show off their talent and spread joy to the staff and residents at both the CWF and Men’s Pavilion.
Continuing the spreading of holiday cheer, you may have read about our holiday gift-giving sign-up. We would like to take the opportunity to thank all of the generous donors who contributed gifts for our clients. We invited the wonderful gift-givers to our holiday brunch, provided by Hard Rock Live at Universal Orlando, on Thursday, December 23. Our donors had the opportunity to taste the delicious food and the chance to mingle with the Coalition clients for whom they purchased gifts.
While everyone was enjoying brunch, residents had the opportunity to pick up their donated gifts. The excitement could be heard all the way down the hall as residents carried their beautifully-wrapped presents back to their rooms. Some received gift cards and exclaimed, “I’m going shopping!” (Homeless or not, everyone likes to select some items for their family!)
Our clients were happy to celebrate this special time of year with the staff, generous gift-givers and each other. We could not have made this a memorable holiday for the men, women and families with children at the Coalition if not for our wonderful volunteers, donors and sponsors. You all have truly helped more than you can imagine!
