Giving “thanks” at the Coalition
With Thanksgiving just a couple of days away, we wanted to take the opportunity to say “thanks” to all of our wonderful volunteers, supporters and partners who are donating their time to the Coalition this Thanksgiving holiday. Our homeless residents, both children and adults, look forward each year to the celebration and the special guests that attend.
The festivities will start on Thanksgiving eve at the Center for Women and Families (CWF), with a Thanksgiving dinner prepared by Planet Hollywood chefs and served by the Johnny and Jayde Morning Show from XL 106.7.
On Thanksgiving morning, Coalition residents will be delighted to find staff, players and volunteers from the Orlando Magic waiting to greet and serve them breakfast. This annual tradition includes an open breakfast, sponsored by the Magic, for Coalition residents and any members of the community who don’t have the means to celebrate Thanksgiving. The hot chocolate, coffee and fixings are courtesy of Panera Bread. The Magic will also host a special carnival for children, immediately following breakfast, at the Coalition’s main campus. Festivities include guest appearances by STUFF the Magic Mascot and the Magic Dancers and music by 102JAMZ. Adults and children are treated to haircuts by Paul Mitchell The School and yummy cookies from Panera Bread.
Hopefully, our residents will save some room because there will be an afternoon Pie Party on both of our campuses. The assortment of pies will be provided by volunteers in the community.
Later that evening, Disney chefs will prepare a traditional holiday dinner, which VoluntEARS will serve to approximately 650 people at our CWF and the Men’s Pavilion. Disney’s involvement with the Coalition spans at least a decade and also includes donations of warm clothing in the winter, assistance with the maintenance and improvement of Coalition facilities and service on the Board of Directors.
At the Women’s Residential and Counseling Center (WRCC), residents will be treated to a Thanksgiving dinner prepared by Maggiano’s, a restaurant that specializes in Italian-American cuisine. This will be the first year that Maggiano’s has served dinner at the Coalition, and we are happy to have them!
Again, we are so thankful to everyone who is participating in these upcoming events. Our residents are really looking forward to the activities and delicious food.
On behalf the staff and clients at the Coalition, we hope you and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
