Appreciating our wonderful volunteers

There are few words and even fewer ways to adequately express our heartfelt appreciation to the dedicated volunteers who donate their time and talent to Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida.

This past year, Coalition staff and clients benefited from almost 17,000 volunteers. These marvelous people gave us nearly 72,000 hours of their time and talent.  Volunteers participated in 342 different group projects, including landscaping, tutoring, mentoring, painting, and a variety of other activities.  There were 243 meal serve groups, about 85 of whom came on a regular basis, enabling us to serve just over 302,000 meals to homeless men, women, and children in our community.

As a small token of thanks to those individuals and groups who so freely give of themselves, Coalition staff held a Volunteer Appreciation Picnic on Saturday, October 23, 2010 at Maitland Community Park.  And we must say, the weather was perfect for the celebration and a good time was had by all!

Several hundred volunteers and their families feasted on a delicious barbecue lunch, generously donated by 4Rivers Smokehouse, and enjoyed the music of Code Blue Bluegrass Band.  Thanks to the generator donated by All Star Equipment, our younger guests were able to bounce to their heart’s content in the Innovative Party Rentals’ bounce house.  The yummy food was dished-up and served by none-other-than a super group of volunteers.  A special thank-you to them as well!

What was most evident on Saturday was the camaraderie among our volunteers as well as their extreme satisfaction in being able to help those who call the Coalition home. Some even asked us what more they could do to assist!

Thank you, dear volunteers, for helping us to provide homeless individuals and families a hand-up to self sufficiency.  We honor and celebrate you. After all……….

We couldn’t do what we do without you!
