Join the fight against hunger!
Did you know that 172,000 (1 in 5) people in Central Florida are hungry?
Our partners at Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida have seen a 152% increase in people seeking food assistance since 2006. According to their 2010 hunger study, 47% of those in need of assistance are children.
So how can you help in the fight against hunger?
Join us during Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week at the Empty Bowls Symbolic Soup Kitchen Luncheon, which now benefits Coalition for the Homeless.
This established community event will be held on Monday, November 15th from 11:30 am – 1:00 pm at the Sonesta Hotel Orlando Downtown. For only $35, you will enjoy a traditional soup kitchen meal, live entertainment, handcrafted pottery by local artists, and pride in helping to fill over 300 “empty bowls” in our community.
You may be surprised to learn how much hope a simple meal of soup, salad, and bread can represent to those who face hunger, homelessness and poverty in our community. Every day, our hungry neighbors make difficult choices between paying for food and other essentials of life, such as rent or baby formula. Last year, Coalition for the Homeless helped alleviate the stress of making these unimaginable decisions by providing over 300,000 nutritious meals to hungry men, women and children.
We are honored to carry on the Empty Bowls tradition, started by our partners at Second Harvest Food Bank, to help raise awareness about the widespread tragedy of hunger in Central Florida.
On behalf of our neighbors in need, thank you for your generosity. Together, we can make a difference by filling one empty bowl at a time!
