14th Annual Golf Challenge a Success!

May 7th was a pretty hot one! Fortunately, that didn’t stop 24 golfers from playing for all they were worth to raise money for the Coalition at the Doug Spencer 14th Annual Golf Challenge. The event took place at Orange County National Golf Center and Lodge in Winter Garden.

This wasn’t your usual golf tournament. Each of these super golfers committed to raising a minimum of $1,500 each, with their donors pledging either a flat amount or on a per-hole basis, and challenged each other for the most holes played in five hours and the most money collected for the Coalition.  When the afternoon ended and the tired but happy golfers dragged into the clubhouse, they had raised $71,000 to benefit Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida!

Again this year, the top fundraiser was the event’s namesake Doug Spencer, President of Spencer Consulting Services. Doug, a former Coalition for the Homeless Board Chairman and current Coalition Advisory Board Co-Chairman, single-handedly raised $12,220 for his chart-topping 80-hole afternoon.  Other major fundraisers included John Martin, SI Goldman Company President/CEO; Don Worden, Kuykendall Gardner Vice President; and Brian Wilson, Partner, Dellecker Wilson King McKenna & Ruffier, LLP.

We at the Coalition are grateful for our golfers and especially for their stamina!  We also want to thank their supporters, our prize donors and hole sponsors, and our Golf Challenge sponsors: Hilton Grand Vacations, Spencer Consulting Services and Ticket Sizzle.

They are helping us provide the tools to return homeless men, women, and children to self sufficiency – and that’s better than a hole in one!
