Social media strengthens nonprofit PR

Today we had the pleasure of sharing how we think social media might achieve social change; we were able to temporarily monopolize the attention of 50 nonprofit communications professionals to explain the nitty-gritty details of how the Coalition is using Facebook, Flickr, TwitterHope for the Homeless blog, and YouTube. This much-appreciated opportunity came about at the quarterly Nonprofit Communications Roundtable of the Florida Public Relations Association (FPRA) Orlando Area Chapter. (That’s quite a mouthful, isn’t it?) The presentation included a to-the-point description of social media and a breakdown of its uses by Heather Whaling, Director of PR at Costa DeVault, and concluded with a quick case study about the Coalition’s efforts in social media. We had such a blast sharing our ideas with other nonprofit friends that we decided to continue spreading the joy by linking to Heather’s presentation (with our case study near the end).

Please enjoy, and feel free to ask questions or offer any advice; we are still learning!
