Staff and clients at the Coalition “Can’t Fight This Feeling” of gratitude after more than 2,000 people rocked out to REO Speedwagon on April 24, 2009 at Hard Rock Live. Our 16th Annual Hearts of Gold garnered over $240,000 for the Coalition’s programs and services. Thanks to all who helped us reach that goal!
Want to know more about this fabulous event? Here are the details:
The evening kicked off with elegant receptions in Hard Rock Live’s famous Art Bar and elite Lennon Room, where our sponsors and supporters enjoyed complimentary cocktails, beverages and scrumptious hors d’oeuvres. We also had a silent auction of unique items including vacation deals, dancing lessons, portrait sessions, sports tickets, and theme park passes.
98.9 WMMO personality Elise Rossi served as our Mistress of Ceremonies and Lalita Booth, a formerly homeless young woman now headed to Harvard (impressive, right?), spoke prior to the concert. Lalita served to remind the eager audience that not only were they about to enjoy some stellar entertainment, but they were also making a difference in their community.
REO Speedwagon then took the stage and – well, they rocked. Playing favorites like “Keep On Loving You” and “Take It On The Run,” REO had the crowd singing along, swaying with the music and cheering their hearts out. We loved it! To top off an evening packed with fun, Coalition President/CEO Brent Trotter announced the raffle winner of an REO Speedwagon autographed guitar.
Hearts of Gold is a major source of funding for the Coalition’s programs and services throughout the year, which is especially important now as the number of homeless families with children increases. Thanks again to everyone who attended, sponsored, donated, and spread the word!
